Role Description: The role of Design Engineer which reports directly into the Engineering Design Manager has been created to play a key part in the development of new products and cost reduction objectives for 2010 and beyond. Working as part of a highly skilled team, you will be responsible for the development of a design from a customer brief through to final factory drawings, BOM, and supply. You will ultimately have full project management responsibility and resource control over these design work packages. These projects will include producing detail drawings, design analysis using FEA, co-ordinating the test process and working with manufacturing and purchasing to ensure customer requirements in delivery, cost and quality are achieved. This role is considered to be very much a development position with real progressional opportunities with the company keen to support Chartership.
Personal Specification: The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level in a Mechanical Engineering related discipline. The candidate must have experience in precision component design and have exposure to close tolerances, geometric tolerances, surface finish etc. 3D CAD experience is a pre-requisite for the role, solidworks experience would be a distinct advantage as would a track record within new product development. Familiarity with design release, version control and the BOM requirements of ISO9001 would also add support any applications. Materials knowledge of castings, tube and forgings would be of great benefit to the candidate as would exposure to and understanding of manufacturing processes (welding / turning / grinding / polishing) . The candidate must have a hands-on approach, good communication and influencing skills and have the ability to successfully project manage cross-functional teams.
