Job Title: CNC Machinist
Job Type: Permanent
Salary: £25k + Shift Allowance
Purpose
The CNC Machinist activities span the following key areas:
· Production of machined parts by planning, programming, setting up, and operating both manual and CNC machines
· Continual Improvement
· Safety
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Production
· Plan machining operations by reading work orders, engineering drawings, specifications, and other work instructions
· Resolving issues or queries with drawings or other work instructions
· Programming CNC lathes and milling machines
· Proving programs and other first-off operations
· Setting and operating both manual and CNC machine tools
· Ensuring accurate routing data and other issues are recorded
· Organising and maintaining both tools and the working environment to achieve efficient operations
· Working with the Shift Team Leader to continually push machine operations for the best productivity
Continual Improvement
· Ongoing assessment of machining processes and procedures to identify and implement improvements
· Identifying new working methods, tooling, or other systems that may improve efficiency
· Identify Lean and 5S opportunities
Safety
· Knowledge and understanding of hazards, PPE requirements, and emergency procedures
· Responsible for house-keeping of allocated work areas
· Promote adherence to the Health and Safety Policy, for example:
o Reporting near misses and accidents
o Point of work risk assessments and method statements
Quality
· Adherence to the manufacturing processes and procedures to support consistency and quality of manufacturing work
· Work with Production Engineer(s) and Inspectors to resolve quality issues
· Complete self-inspection and measuring of components prior to final Inspection
Key Skills and Competencies
· A wide range of precision machine shop skills and experience
· A thorough understanding of engineering drawings and dimensional/geometric tolerances
· Good organisational skills and attention to detail
· General competency in computers, CNC machine programming, and computer-aided manufacturing tools
· A commitment to continuous improvement
Qualifications
A recognised formal apprenticeship
