Job Title: EC&I Design Manager
Salary: £60k p/annum
Location: Preston
An innovative and rapidly growing company is hiring an EC&I Design Manager who will report to the Engineering Manager, with goals to maximise productivity, quality, the development staff and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities include:
Engineering Productivity & Quality
- Supervise the engineers & their workload
- Attend resource planning meetings and assist the Engineering Manager
- Promote the adherence to company policy and procedures
- Ensure compliance with both the client and statutory requirements
- Promote a close working relationship with other departments.
Employee Development
- Conduct performance appraisals for employees
- Monthly contact with staff to ensure their professional and personal development is on track
- Develop a supportive, encouraging, and learning environment
- Identify training needs, and develop, communicate and support the professional and personal development of the staff
- Working with the Engineering Manager and other internal stakeholders to recruit new employees.
Continual Improvement
- Ongoing assessment of engineering processes and procedures to identify and implement improvements
- Implementation of continuous improvement initiatives
Line Management
- Deal with staff matters on a daily basis
- Assist the Engineering Manager where required
- Promote adherence to the H&S policy
- Reporting near misses and accidents
- Risk assessments for non-routine activities
For a specific project or projects:
- Be accountable for the technical management and delivery within time, cost, and quality
- Maintain technical compliance with the contract and resolve technical conflicts where possible
- Ensure cross-discipline integration
- Assist the project management staff in:
- Understanding the technical delivery such that they may manage budget/expenditure information and work durations
- Reviewing progress and the critical path
- Identify and minimise the company's exposure to risk
- Identify and report changes
- Promote cohesion across the project team
Design Tasks
Carrying out design tasks to meet the time, cost, and quality requirements of projects such as:
- Scheme design deliverables
- Detail design deliverables
- Production of manufacturing documentation
- Take part in client meetings, testing / commissioning activities, and post-project review meetings
- Maintaining the project’s working folder
- Checking and approving of deliverables produced by other team members
Tendering Tasks
This may include but not be limited to:
- Production of concept designs
- Estimating durations for the design of tender items
- Composing technical responses to quotation requests
Skills/Knowledge Required
- Has been responsible for a variety of diverse projects or activities ranging in both size and complexity
- An ability and desire to support, motivate and develop others
- Sufficient knowledge, interpersonal skills, and communication skills to attract respect and exert influence within his or her assigned group of staff
- Proven organisational, administrative, and planning abilities
- Commercially and delivery-focused
- Experience or familiarity with continual improvement methodologies
- Degree / HND / Higher Apprenticeship in a related discipline
- Chartered Engineer (CEng)
