Job Title: General Manager

A leading manufacturer of high-precision machine parts is hiring a General Manager to join their well-reputable family business.

Responsibility:

  • Defining the monthly production plan and cascading individual operations through internal and external processes.

  • Day-to-day management of manufacturing operations, production planning/purchasing office, logistics, and production engineering.

  • Liaising with subcontract companies – is an essential requirement.

  • Be involved from the start of the NPI process liaising with production engineering and sales teams.

  • Identifying opportunities to streamline business processes and systems.

  • Translating the company’s strategic plans into defined operational plans.

  • Defining performance management KPIs to monitor operational functions.

  • Reporting to the directors on operations activities towards business goals.

  • Establishing a culture of continuous business improvement.

  • Be responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day management of the operations team.

  • Drive 5S to improve workplace housekeeping and efficiency.

  • Research opportunities for cost savings across the business.

  • Stay up to date with the industry's technological changes in machining and tooling.

  • Responsible for ensuring the compliance of all manufacturing operations with relevant health and safety regulations and standards as well as the health and safety of staff in all manufacturing processes.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Self-motivated and very positive.

  • Preferably a time-served engineer.

  • Strong machine shop background with core competencies around CNC turning and milling.

  • Strong communication and organisational abilities.

  • Stakeholder management skills and the ability to manage a large product range within a subcontract machining environment.

  • Individual needs to be receptive and understanding of the drivers of a family-owned business yet be driven and able to challenge the status quo.

  • Strong leadership skills.

  • Experience in an SME manufacturing operations environment.

  • Previous experience working for a company within the industry would be ideal however there are many other manufacturing industries that would also provide solid grounding.

  • The product variety is one of the companies’ key complexities, with many different products being supplied into industries such as medical, aerospace, and defense. As a company, they are far from a “single line” production model and candidates would be well served coming from a similar background.

  • Highly motivated with a passion for driving operational business change.

  • Hands-on approach. Managers & Directors are very much involved in the day-to-day operations and fully immerse with the people and tasks as required.

  • IT systems experience. A key requirement. The company sees IT development in operations planning as a key milestone. It will also require reflection on how to deal with the company’s product variety and complexity within an ERP package.

  • Ability to analyse and improve plant labour recovery/efficiencies.

  • Commercial awareness with an eye for seeing business improvement opportunities.

  • Developmental mindset but willing to work in a family-owned business environment where the drivers, the values and the ethos are different.
