Job Description

Purpose of Role: 

The position of manufacturing engineer requires creative, analytical and developmental thinking as well as qualifications and experience in a relevant field of manufacturing (CNC / MAZAK VTC machining centres 800/20SR desired). The design, planning, documentation, implementation, optimisation, and supervision of manufacturing processes are key requirements of the job. An essential skill is the ability to communicate with workers involved in all stages of manufacture. Enthusiasm, cooperation and a positive outlook as well as a thorough understanding of the technology and manufacturing concepts involved is important, as is the ability to prioritise.

Main purpose of job

  • Develop manufacturing methods and solutions for the machining of fabricated components and assemblies by the use of either conventional or CNC machinery
  • Creation of CNC programs including their ongoing maintenance and updating, control of program libraries and release to production
  • Creation of CNC programs for the manufacture and/or modification of tooling & fixtures, for use in either machining or fabrication processes
  • Provide technical & engineering support for all aspects of the manufacturing process
  • Ensure engineering and quality requirements for products are fully understood and met
  • Thorough analysis of process / tooling design and definition. Assist with tool design, manufacture, repair and purchase
  • Create / maintain all documentation associated with the manufacture of components including route cards, BOMS and technical documents
  • Create/Implement problem resolution and development plans to address longstanding production issues
  • Support Quality in the closure of QNs and NCRs
  • Support in the drafting/approval of concessions, rework sheets and all other documentation associated with operational activities
  • Produce estimates, technical and manufacturing proposals to support bids
  • Undertake special projects as requested
  • Implementation of capital investment projects
  • Develop, implement & Monitor “Best Practice” lean manufacturing processes to achieve Business goals
  • Provide leadership and manage change to drive through improvements
  • To provide cover for other engineering disciplines as requested


Experience and Skills


  • Experience in the following areas:
    • CNC Machining – stainless steel, high-temp alloys, tool steel
    • Online ISO programming
    • Offline programming experience using hyperMILL (5 axis processor)
    • Machining fixture design
  • Solid understanding of materials behaviour
  • Able to interpret and apply engineering, quality and EH & S standards
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings
  • Understanding of Aerospace specifications and approvals
  • Knowledge of aerospace procedures and documentation including the creation of FAIRs, production permits/concessions, PFMEA’s, etc.
  • Demonstrates a pragmatic approach to problem solving
  • Self-motivated, organised with excellent time management skills
  • Engineering/manufacturing focused with a commercial awareness
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Computer literate including MS Office and MS Project applications


  • MAZAK VTC machining centres 800/20SR desirable
  • Working knowledge of MRP systems, preferably Syspro
  • CAD experience (preference Catia, Solid works)
  • Inspection methods
  • Knowledge of sheet metal forming and fabrication techniques preferably within an Aerospace environment


  • Degree, HND, HNC qualified
  • Certifications applicable to this role



0800hrs to 1615hrs Monday to Thursday

0800hrs to 1500hrs Friday



Salaried at circa £35,000 - £40,000 + benefits
