Job Title: Principle Mechanical Design Engineer
Salary: £50k p/annum
Location: Preston
An innovative and rapidly growing company is hiring a Principle Mechanical Design Engineer, who will undertake design tasks, project management interaction, technical & leadership mentoring, tendering tasks, engineering productivity, quality, continuous improvement & health & safety.
Responsibilities for a specific project or projects;
- Be accountable for the technical management and delivery within time cost and quality
- Maintain technical compliance with the contract and resolve technical conflicts where possible
- Ensure cross-discipline integration
- Assist the project management staff in:
- Understanding the technical delivery such that they may manage budget/expenditure information
- Reviewing progress and the critical path
- Identify and minimize the company's exposure to risk
- Identify and report changes
- Promote cohesion across the project team
Design Tasks
- Scheme design deliverables
- Detail design deliverables
- Production of manufacturing documentation
- Take part in client meetings, testing / commissioning activities, and post-project review meetings
- Maintaining the project’s working folder
- Checking and approving
Technical & Leadership Mentoring
Act as a mentor to a number of engineering staff to;
- Develop their technical knowledge and understanding
- Develop their leadership abilities
- Provide support in achieving developmental goals
- Encourage staff to develop their personal competencies
Tendering Tasks
- Production of concept designs
- Estimating durations for the design of tender items
- Composing technical responses to quotation requests
Engineering Productivity, Quality & Improvement
- Ongoing assessment of engineering processes and procedures to identify and implement improvements
- Promoting adherence to the Engineering processes and procedures to support consistency and quality of engineering work
- Promote compliance with both client and statutory requirements
- Implementation of continuous improvement initiatives
- Promoting a close working relationship with other departments, especially Planning and Manufacturing to ensure Engineering
Health & Safety
- Take reasonable care for own health and safety and the health and safety of others
- Report all accidents and near misses to their Line Manager or Safety Representative
- Not operate any equipment they have not been specifically trained to use
Skills/Experience Required
- Has been accountable for a variety of diverse projects or activities ranging in both size and complexity
- A sound appreciation of manufacturing, assembly, and test techniques
- Strong technical leadership, decision making, and communication skills
- Proven record of technically leading teams, shaping the outcome of projects, and assisting others in the delivery of projects
- Ability to read, understand and shape new procedures and standards
- Proficiency in the production of standard design deliverables expected
- Experienced user of relevant design tools, techniques, and methods
- Conversant with legislation and regulations applicable to their role and the projects they are working on
- Degree / HND / Higher Apprenticeship in a related discipline
- Chartered Engineer (CEng)
