A manufacturer of metal powders for the additive manufacturing market, based in California is recruiting a VP of Applications Engineering who will report to the company’s CEO.

The main purpose of this position is to provide executive strategic leadership and direction for the applications engineering department in the business. You will form close links with customers and R&D to understand future technical trends and developments in AM, metal printed components, and software.

Supporting customer programs will be key and you will be expected to provide technical expertise regarding the validation and release to ensure the risks are minimized and maximize the application of the company’s products and services.

You will need to develop technical expertise with the materials and component print services and work directly with customers, by providing ways that the products and services can help with end applications across all vertical markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership characteristics that foster team progress and take the initiative to take on challenging assignments.
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism in front of customers and help educate customers on the benefits of the products and services, and help customers in developing their own additive manufacturing strategy.
  • Capable of guiding problem-solving activity and fostering the use of strong analytical skills.
  • Work closely with the entire commercial and technical teams to ensure a consistent and quality experience.
  • Creates strong morale and team spirit within the team while actively fostering wins/successes through results.
  • Attains project and management goals on time and within established budget and produces forecasts for engineering resources to support customer programs.
  • Responsible for overall program technical interface with customers. Drives the activities necessary to support development, production release, and maintenance of products.

Qualification / Job Training

  • Qualified to Master’s Degree level is preferable in Material Science / Mechanical Engineering, or similar engineering degree along with the membership of a professional institution.
  • Senior leadership applications experience ideally from metal AM industry
  • Customer relationship management experience is essential
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Project required.
  • Excellent leadership skills

Experience

  • Senior leadership applications experience ideally from metal AM industry
  • At least 3 years of supervising engineers and interfacing with customers.
  • Must have strong technical skills in mechanical or materials engineering, especially in the metal AM industry.
  • The company is high-growth, so candidates must possess self-motivation, a collaborative team-oriented approach, and good problem-solving skills.
